Shades of Autumn
Autumn in both the UK and US sees the advent of our recruitment programmes at universities to attract future candidates. We are really grateful to those alumni who have volunteered to assist us, as sharing your experiences with potential candidates really helps them take that final step and apply to the Programme. This is in fact one of the various ways alumni can stay involved with the Programme, and we will shortly be sending out a number of engagement options for volunteers with different levels of participation for those wishing to stay involved.
This newsletter comprises a range of alumni all achieving in diverse careers: the legal profession; the food and music industries, as well as an Honorary Doctorate bestowed on an alum for research into the South Asian Ecomonies and Financial Markets.
MBA's in Bangkok
Last weekend saw our MBA students in Bangkok enjoying a number of welcome activities as they embark on the final semester of their MBA in Thailand. Saturday 23rd September saw them participating, cooking and eating their own delicious Thai meal; and they also enjoyed a cultural visit to the Ancient City of Muangboran. We wish them well with the remainder of their studies during their time in Bangkok.
Lady Mountbatten Memorial Service in NYC
On Tuesday September 12, 2017 at the Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue in NYC, members of the Mountbatten community paid tribute to our late Patron, The Countess Mountbatten of Burma, at a Choral Evensong. During the service the Lessons were read by Hon Lord Ivar Mountbatten, Lady Mountbatten's nephew, and by Mr. Douglas Paul, Chancellor of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem. St. John is the sponsor of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, of which Lady Mountbatten was a strong supporter. The Director General, Dr. Beresford-Hill, delivered the homily. He spoke of Lady Mountbatten's capacity for forgiveness following the assassination of her father, mother in law and youngest son by the IRA in1979.
Approximately 100 guests, including staff, current interns and alumni, attended a reception following the service at which Lord Ivar offered some personal reminiscences of his Aunt, including an event that occurred a number of years ago at an Oscars ceremony in Hollywood. Lady Mountbatten's husband was a film director and one of his movies was being nominated for best picture. Lady Mountbatten was seated at a table next to the singer Prince. She introduced herself and asked the name of her neighbour. 'Prince' came the smiling reply. 'Oh' said Lady Mountbatten 'Prince of Where?' Prince replied 'Actually I am not the Prince of anywhere, I am just Prince'. 'How unfortunate' she replied. 'If I knew where you were Prince of, then perhaps we might be related'. When Lady Mountbatten recounted the story to her children they rolled around the room in hysterics!!
The memorial event was a fitting tribute to someone who has provided much support behind the scenes to the Institute. Her wisdom and her kindness will long be remembered and the organisation that bears her family name is in great debt to the contribution she made over nearly 30 years of patronage.

"My career to date has been extremely varied. Since coming back from New York, I spent a year at Japan Tobacco International, a year at Amazon, five months at Richemont and then went back to work for Amazon, where I work now as a qualified lawyer. I advise across Amazon UK's retail and marketplace businesses on regulatory disputes with primary responsibility for managing existing, and creating new relationships with UK regulators and law enforcement. There hasn't been a dull moment yet! I can't imagine running out of things to learn and challenges to rise to for a while. In the long term, I'd like to return to New York City and practice law there."

Entrepreneurial Alumni
Giovanni Ravone

Giovanni, a graduate of University of Westminster, has just joined Uber this year in Sydney as Community Ops Manager for Australia, New Zealand & Japan. Prior to this, he had been running his food delivery start-up HowAboutEat in Australia for about 2 years. HowAboutEat was a lunch delivery startup, focused on easy & convenient deliveries to busy office workers. All orders were collected via a chatbot that each morning would send 3 options to all our users from the best local restaurants. To order, users simply had to reply "Yes" to their chatbot and lunch would be delivered to their office with a $1 delivery fee only. Read full article.

A Day In The Life
Sarah Parker

Sarah is a graduate of The University of Manchester, is a multi skilled Business Development Executive at Sony Music, a Creative Producer at Radar Radio, and a Writer. In her role at Sony Music, Sarah is responsible for everything business development related including launching albums/projects, running artist ticket pre-sales, and curating fan events to name a few; whilst in her other role as Creative Producer for Kamilla Rose at Radar Radio she books artists, creates show content and selects music to play on the show. Boston Alumni Get-Together
The NY Corporate & Alumni Relations team – Jo Harvey and Torrey Klett – happened to be in Boston for a conference on September 11th & 12th so were delighted to be able to use the opportunity to meet up with several of our Boston based alumni! Through an event posted on Mountbatten Connect, Jo and Torrey met with Anique Seldon (New York, 2008), Brittany Miller (London, 2013), Josh Boyce (London, 2012), Merveille Mankoto (New York, 2015), and Nicole Verderame and Abby Amundson (London, 2015).
It was a fun evening and the alumni were able to exchange stories of their Mountbatten experiences as well as discuss what they are doing now, in addition to catching up with what is happening with the Mountbatten Programme today. We encourage our alumni to organize more regional meet-ups like this for themselves using Mountbatten Connect – it's a great way to stay in touch with classmates as well as meet new people in your area who you already have something in common with! Honorary Doctorate
We are delighted to announce that congratulations are due to Sourajit Aiyer (London, March 2009) who has previously been featured in MNN with his book publications, Capital Market Integration in South Asia, and Flying with the Winged Elephant (published between August 2014 and November 2016), and has just added to his accolades. Sourajit has recently received an Honorary Doctorate (Doctor of Letters, D. Litt) from the International Economics University in Madurai, India.
This Award was bestowed for the research he has done on South Asian economies & financial markets, both for his book and various published articles. Sourajit has also been speaking on this topic in guest talks in various countries. This is a topic on which very little work has been done so far, hence there is a dearth of published material on it. In The News
Harmony Myhres and Anothony Prettitore both (London, August 2017) are undertaking the Royal Parks Half Marathon in London on 8th October and fundraising for charity. Harmony is running with colleagues from BlackRock, and raising monies for the Right to Play charity team. Anthony is representing Citibank and Mountbatten (and hopes to make both proud) for the Haven House Charity. Mountbatten is supporting both trainees, but they would be grateful for any additional support and/good wishes from fellow trainees or alumni.

Congratulations to Chris Beresford-Hill, one of the Board Members of the Mountbatten Institute has just this month been made Chief Creative Officer at TBWA/Chiat/Day’s New York office. See the full article.
