Mountbattens on Eggheads

In December 2016, during a quiet week at work, I decided to apply for the TV Quiz show 'Eggheads' with some of my fellow Mountbatten trainees from the New York August 2014 intake. We all now live in London and have remained close friends since. The team, which you can see in the photograph comprised (From Left to Right): Daniel Kundnani, Tom Simpson, Jordan Tandy, Benedict Pickard, Daniel D'Souza, Daniel Hall.

We decided to call ourselves 'The Blaggards' after one of our favourite pubs in Midtown Manhattan (speciality being their Long Island Iced Teas). We were all also subject to a quick general knowledge quiz over the phone with the production team – a test we all passed with flying colours. After a few weeks of further interaction with the BBC, we were chosen to film our episode in Glasgow in January 2017. After flying from London, we were introduced to the well-known presenter Jeremy Vine, and the rest of the eggheads cast who over the years have become TV personalities in their own right.

Unfortunately, after being told the jackpot was £25,000(!), our performance let us down. Benedict Pickard was the shining light of the team, winning his individual round on 'Arts & Books' in a very impressive showing of knowledge. However, my round on Politics and Daniel Hall's round on Film & TV were not as successful. Daniel even got a question wrong about his so called favourite film, Brokeback Mountain! Overall though, it was a brilliant day out and a great experience. It was also nice to do something with a full group of Mountbatten alumni, which just goes to show the friendships that the trainees make in both London and New York can last for well over the 12 months of the programme and beyond.

Alum
of the Month

Femi Omi
London, March 2015

"I currently work with Accenture Ireland as a Management Consultant in the Finance & Risk practice... I recently concluded a six-week project with a leading Irish bank where I led an engagement involving rapid assessment and the design of a Solutions Outline Document (SOD). This particular assignment made me feel quite nostalgic as it reminded me of the Consultancy Report I had to submit as part of the Chester / Mountbatten NELA requirements. In many ways, I credit the Mountbatten experience with helping me to firm up my intellectual muscles. The art of reflection which is the bedrock of the MA programme has also been hugely profound and life changing for me"
