Alumni Newsletter

January 2014

With the seasonal festivities well and truly behind us, we are left to struggle with the daily and ongoing issues associated with changing climatic conditions. In New York it's been severely cold, while flooding has been a problem in many parts of the UK. We extend our sympathies to all those adversely affected, but there is some good news on the horizon. This year marks the 30th Anniversary of the Mountbatten Institute, which is quite something to celebrate, and celebrate it, we intend to do. There will be various events throughout the year, but the main alumni celebrations will take place in New York in mid September and in London towards the end of October. We really hope as many of you as possible will attend the events, and make them the biggest and most far reaching reunion and celebrations Mountbatten has ever held.

We will be setting up special Event Committees in both London and New York, where we aim to recruit some volunteers across the intakes for their input and also to help co-ordinate the celebrations. If you would like to offer any assistance, please contact Vicki.

Don't forget to get in touch with any career/business/achievement updates, and of course, those Mountbatten Weddings.

August 12 Completion & Awards Ceremony - Bangkok

The completion ceremony for the MBA in International Business Practice was held at the Conrad hotel in Bangkok on 14th December 2013, with the Director General of the Mountbatten Institute, Dr Paul Beresford-Hill, and Dr Pit Suphar Patchimsuwat, Director of Naresuan University Bangkok, awarding completion certificates to the students.

Mr Paul Salvette, Managing Director of BB eBooks, and Mrs Elizabeth Kenyon, Senior Project Engineer for Miyamoto International Thailand, were the guest speakers, and Miss Brittany Miller and Mr Alexander Lee gave the completion address on behalf of the MBA class. Prizes were awarded for academic excellence, and during the subsequent celebratory dinner, a video presentation was given from the students. Each student also received a gift of a polo shirt with the new Mountbatten logo.

Congratulations to everyone on your achievements! Full details & Photo album.

Academic Director Introduction

Dr David Twigg

On Monday 13th January we held a reception at The Brewery in London to introduce our European Regional office's new Academic Director, Dr David Twigg. The evening was hosted by our Director General, Dr Paul Beresford-Hill, and Deputy Director General, Mr Gary Ball. We enjoyed a great turn out of current Mountbattens along with the London office staff. Dr Beresford-Hill warmly welcomed everyone before Dr Twigg introduced himself. Drinks and nibbles flowed throughout the night and an excellent time was had by all!

A day in the life of...

Nicola Nolan (January 2007 - New York), who was incidentally our very first Alum of the month, is now a PR and Marketing Director at Neal's Yard Remedies. She lives in London. "I've been with the iconic Neal's Yard Remedies for over 5 years now and have, over the years, taken on more and more responsibility, which I've thoroughly enjoyed. From the very start, I was tasked with taking on all areas of PR for the brand, getting our amazing blue bottles out into the public forum and into the very best magazines, newspapers and websites. Today, whilst I'm still very much involved in PR strategy, I also head up all areas of marketing and also feed into our new product development plans and strategies and I'm lucky to be doing a role I really love, that challenges me on a daily basis!" Nana throws parties, dinners and crew dates for members, as well as providing suggestions on how and where to date.

She's recently launched a membership programme just in time for Valentine's (find out how to apply) and is about to start recruiting for staff. Learn about Nana's career history and what led her to set up her own business.

British American Business - Christmas Royale

Last month, Dr Paul Beresford-Hill, Vicki Downey and Non Apiwatchart from our New York office attended the British American Business "Christmas Royale" celebration. There were 14 Mountbattens volunteering at the event, that was also attended by some of our existing host placement managers, as well as some of the new managers for the upcoming March intake. By all accounts it was a very enjoyable evening.
