Mountbatten Engagements

In the London August 2012 intake who have just left, there were 2 engagements amongst fellow Mountbattens! Some hinted at a third, but my sources have been unable to verify this at present. Nevertheless, do I see an interesting sideline for the Mountbatten Institute here..?

In addition, John Tierney and Stef Allia (August 2007 - London), (the left pic) share with us the following account of their engagement, which took place in Jaunary earlier this year.
In Stef's words: "We first met when a group of Mountbattens decided to take a trip to Borough Market. Later that weekend, we hit it off at a gathering at the Sutherland flats. John, being the gentleman that he is, generously offered to share his bottle of Strongbow cider with me, and as the night came to a close offered to walk me to the bus stop. I agreed to go on an 'official' date with John the following week to my favorite pub, The Windsor, and he whisked me off my feet by buying me a quesadilla appetizer and a 5 pound bottle of Rosé. We continued to date on and off throughout the year. When our intake came to a close, we weren't ready to go separate ways..."
So they have lived together ever since in New York and, since spring this year in London, where they will stay until they get married in Glacier National Park in Montana next August.

Mountbatten would like to wish all concerned many congratulations and look forward to seeing some wedding pictures in the future.

Entrepreneurial Alumni

Cara Sutherland (September 2010 - New York) set up her online clothing company, and shares with us what is unique about the business, and includes a very inviting alumni offer...

YOYO (You're Only Young Once) was founded in early 2013 by Cara (creative marketer) and her school friend Lynsey Henderson (accomplished designer), when the pair decided to turn their passion project into reality. They share a love for fashion, music and colour, the three key elements at the heart of their unisex hand printed textiles brand. YoYo's unisex designs are fun, unique and wearable. From loud and wild to dainty and intricate, the duo draw, paint, dye, customise and hand screenprint every item at their Edinburgh studio. Meaning each YoYo design is a piece of unique, wearable art.

Their first t-shirt collection 'Cowabunga', which has been incredibly well received, is inspired by the 80s and 90s influences of their youth and features an exclusive mix of limited edition designs. The pair plan to move into other areas and will be adding sweatshirts and other items to their second collection, set to launch in December this year.

Alumni Fundraising Event

Christina Chang (March 2009 - London) is organising a fundraising event for her brother in law and sister's campaign to start a one to one toy company.

Thursday Oct 10th, 6-10pm at Ph-D Dream Downtown. Christina's brother in law Rich will be there so you can meet him and learn more about Roughy Toys! Her goal is to encourage everyone to buy and donate an Alex for USD $29.

In Memoriam

We are extremely sorry to have to pass on this sad news, but Adem Osman (January 2001- New York) died very recently after a year long fight with cancer. Two of Adem's close friends and fellow Mountbattens, Emma Philpott and Oliver Stribling (January 2001 - New York), have written this moving eulogy for their greatly missed friend.

"Ad was a fantastic friend and was an inspiration to all that knew him. All his family and friends will miss him greatly." Among those who cared for Adem over the past year was St Joseph's Hospice in Hackney. The hospice does not just provide medical care, they also provide emotional support for terminally ill patients and their families. Before his passing, Adem requested donations to be made to this hospice. Any donations kindly made will ensure that the nurses at St Joseph's can continue their vital work in future for other families in similar situations.

The Mountbatten Institute would like to express our sincerest condolences to Adem's family and friends, and hope they derive some comfort from the fact that he made such an impression on those who were close to him.
