How did you get into this line of business?
"I got into this line of business because a few of my main values are freedom and happiness. I experienced immense freedom and happiness while enrolled in the Mountbatten Program; however, after assimilating back into the US corporate culture, I found freedom and happiness a bit lacking!
Not that I was terribly unhappy with my stable, corporate job, but I always felt as if there was something missing. Because of this I went on a messy personal and spiritual development journey. At the end of this journey, the main lesson I learned was how to truly love myself and follow my heart.
This has enhanced my life immensely and in order to share this with others, I created Chief Holistic Officer, a community and resource space for truly finding joy and happiness. And what better way to enhance and protect your family time than by finding ways to personally be happy and joyful every day?
How did you go about setting it up and getting established?
I found trusted professionals to help me setup my business structure. I joined a local Chamber and have been taking advantage of their free business training (and also met great local business leaders by getting involved in Chamber committees and events). As far as the technical side, I have been using Go Daddy for my website and utilizing my rudimentary coding skills to make it look as professional as I can!!!
What else is in the pipeline?
In the pipeline is the creation of a CHO platform. This platform will be available to companies and people who are doing great in the world. These ‘CHO approved’ companies will be able to connect with my followers, thus spreading joy and happiness even further!
What has been the proudest moment in your working life thus far?
Creating a pregnancy social/support group for a local mom. While networking with a local pregnant woman, I was touched by her story about how she felt so alone. We live in a large city, there is no reason that she should be feeling alone. So right then and there I asked her, “If I created a social/support group for local women in the area who are currently pregnant, would that help?” Her response was, “OMG that would be amazing and I would love that.” A week later we had our first get together! The joy I felt seeing this woman connect with others and knowing that she was going to be receiving the support she needed during her pregnancy and beyond, cannot be described in words! I am currently working on creating more and more of these pregnancy social/support groups in my area (Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA) and beyond. As well as creating groups for moms on maternity leave. No woman should feel alone during this emotionally and physically demanding time!
If you are currently pregnant or recently had a baby and are interested in joining a group, fill out the form here. I will add you to a group or create a group for you. If you are interested in hosting a group, scroll to the bottom of this page and complete the form there.
What has been your biggest mistake/learning experience?
The biggest learning experience thus far has been to ‘slow down’. I have had to learn to take baby steps one at a time in order to learn and evolve with my business rather than trying to force it. Slowing down has enabled me to really listen to what my followers want and need. Giving me the opportunity to then create an impactful product or service that they love.
Any words of advice/wisdom would you impart to others thinking of setting up their own business?
Starting small is not a bad thing. Start small to grow big! Otherwise you’re likely to get overwhelmed with the big picture and never start because it’s feels like way too much. Trust me, I was there!!"
